Shooting Drills for Accuracy and Form

Improving your shooting requires consistency, proper technique, and repetition. Begin with spot shooting drills. Choose five key positions on the court: the two corners, two wings, and the top of the three-point line. At each spot, take 20 shots, focusing on the mechanics of your form. Ensure your shooting hand is centered on the ball, your guide hand is steady, and your follow-through creates proper backspin. Track your makes and misses for each position and aim for a gradual improvement. Set a goal to reach 80% accuracy from each spot over the course of several weeks.

Free throws are another critical area to develop shooting consistency. Perform 50 free throws daily, breaking them into sets of 10. Between each set, pause to analyze your form and adjust any inconsistencies. Focus on maintaining a balanced stance, keeping your eyes on the rim, and following through with each shot. Regularly evaluate your free throw percentage and aim for steady progress over time.

Incorporate catch-and-shoot drills into your sessions. Have a partner pass you the ball from various angles, focusing on catching the ball in a ready position and shooting without hesitation. This simulates in-game scenarios and improves your reaction time and accuracy under pressure. Perform this drill for 10 minutes, rotating around the perimeter to practice different shooting angles.
